Going Caveman

Well, I will start by saying that I am going caveman as you can see by the title. This diet is a way of life where you only eat foods and workout in a manner that humans did back Paleolithic period. The Paleo period ran for about 2.5 million years and was around until about 10,000 years ago.

The Paleolithic diet consists of foods that can be hunted and fished, such as meat, offal and seafood, and can be gathered, such as eggs, insects, fruit, nuts, seeds, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs and spices. Some sources advise eating only lean cuts of meat, free of food additives, preferably wild game meats and grass-fed beef since they contain higher levels of omega-3 fats compared with grain-produced domestic meats.

Why?

You may ask why I am doing this. Well there is many reasons; better health, future career, feeling good... the list goes on and on. Right now I am a 333lb 26 year old, which is not the biggest I have ever been and my weight has fluctuated around this number for about 8 year now. While I am clinically health even with how high my weight is, I know it can only last so long. People were not ment to be this size and I know that if I do not do something now my future wellbeing is greatly jeopardized.

Also there is my passion in life, firefighting, which I know will also come to a premature end if I do not act now. It is kind of funny actually, for being a big guy I do rather well in the fire service. I can last longer on my SCBA than most, have the ability to lift heavier items and posses "stupid strength" when needed. But I do have a lowered stamina, and I fear for my brothers and sisters that would have to rescue me if I ever went down in a fire. It really is not fair to them or myself.

What's next?
So that being said, I am making the choice of going caveman! I will use this blog as a "where I have been and where I want to go" tool, posting pictures and progress periodically. I have toyed with the idea of taking a self-picture every day to document my progress and create a visual aid for myself. This is going to be a very hard journey especially with living at school and being broke, but there is rarely anything worthwhile that comes easy and to realize my goal of becoming a paid firefighter it is either put up or shut up time.

I welcome anyone and everyone to join me on my journey. It will be a tough road but I know with determination and support it will be all good.
